Lets Get Digital

A massive thank you to everyone who helped and to everyone came to our Lets Get Digital conference today The Workstation, we could not have been more proud to be in a space with so many brilliant people.

We had laughs and we cried today, looking back at all the things we have all achieved during lockdown, supporting each other digitally to stay well, stay safe and stay connected. being digitally connected has really been a life saver for a lot of people with learning disabilities and Autism in our communities. Sadly, not everyone who has a learning disability or Autism has the opportunity to connect digitally.

Some people cannot afford it, some people have family members who do not want them to have technology, some have support workers who are not tech savvy and some people are afraid. Today was about connecting up so that we can find out who we can help in the community.

We gave out tablets, SIM cards with loads of data and we gave out packs to support people. Hopefully we gave people a great afternoon also.

There are a few people we need to thank for making this day great. Firstly Andrew Smith who volunteers for us and works tirelessly to make everything we do, brilliant. Thank you Andrew so very much. Secondly, Mary Bottomley who is another one of our volunteers who has been running around all day, supporting people and signing for the Deaf people in the room. Thank you Mary. To all the people who came to help, Cathy Spencer Martha Foulds Darren Lee Kelly Scargill Vicky Vale and Michelle Drain from EMH in Derbyshire.

To all the wonderful speakers, Emma, Andrew from EMH group, Lucy Crofts, Marie Knotts, Robert Mclean and Cathy Wragg. To all the projects and speakers that made this event so brilliant also. To Heeley Development Trust who gave us some cash (hooray), to Alex Barker from AbilityNet . To Jane Seale from The Open University for talking about her Toolkit for support workers. To Good Things Foundation for supporting this project. To Zoe Thomas from Skills for Care for making the trip from Leeds to be with us today. To the Workstation staff, Matt and Co for putting this on for us. To all the students from Sheffield Hallam University that took their time to come and help people at the event. To Sheffield City Council for giving is some Tablets and laptops to loan to people. Lastly thanks to Vodafone it for giving us loads of SIM cards to hand out.

Phew what a day! Breathe and Relax
